Bryan McLain

After spending 30 years in education—as a 5th grade teacher and later as an elementary and middle school principal—I discovered that one of the most meaningful parts of my work was helping young people navigate challenges, discover their strengths, and believe in themselves. Although counseling is my second career, becoming a counselor has been a lifelong goal. After retiring from education, I returned to school to earn my Master’s degree in Counseling and pursue that calling in a new way. I particularly enjoy working with teens and adolescents and helping them navigate grief and loss, anxiety, anger, depression, difficult life experiences, and self-esteem challenges. I also enjoy working with men and women as they navigate the many challenges and transitions life can bring. I believe one of the most powerful things we can give another person is the experience of being truly heard and valued. When you listen to kids, they will listen to you. My goal is to create a safe, accepting, and collaborative environment where clients can recognize their inherent worth, develop healthier ways of thinking and coping, and gain the confidence to move forward. As a Person-Centered Counselor, I incorporate CBT and DBT strategies based on each client's individual needs. My Christian faith is an important part of my life and informs the compassion, hope, and respect I bring to my counseling relationships. It would be an honor to work with you and walk alongside you through whatever you may be facing.
